When it comes to the security of women, Bengaluru is no safer than Delhi, and Saturday night was its definitive confirmation. Lawlessness prevailed on the streets after 11 pm as revelers crowded in the heart of the city – MG Road & Brigade Road – to welcome the New Year 2017. But despite “elaborate” protection arrangements, women were worried, and children scared out of their jokes, while male friends and families had a tough time defending them from violent men. And all this happened notwithstanding the 1,500 policemen stationed in the area.
Numerous of people, on bikes, cars and by walk, gathered here for revelers. Though police had initially pretended to take all precautions to secure an ‘incident-free’ New Year, it showed they underestimated the strength of the mob.
All hell broke loose close tonight as hooligans in the form of revelers started pawing, annoying and passing lewd remarks on ladies on the streets, forcing some of them to take off their blades and run for help.
BM lensmen out on Brigade Road and MG Road on Saturday night became first-hand eyewitnesses to this brazen, mass m0lestation of women, out in the open and policemen presence.
